Your Andean Lifeline: Satellite Phones

One of the coolest things about trekking the Andes is the feeling of being truly off the grid, but even the best adventures need a safety net, and that’s where satellite phones come in.

Why satellite phones?

We’re all about the remote experience, but we’re also big on being prepared. Adventures can be unpredictable, and having a communication lifeline is key.

Satellite devices don’t care about cell towers or fussy signals–they work no matter how far off the beaten path we go. Should anything unexpected happen, the devices can call in medical advice, give weather updates, or even help adjust an itinerary on the fly.

On every single trek, one of our guides carries a fully charged satellite phone (along with those classic walkie-talkies!).

Yeah, these are mainly for emergencies, but we’re cool. You can use them to call home; we just ask that you chip in to cover the cost – $2.50 a minute.  You can pay up when the trek’s over, cash or credit card, easy peasy.

So go ahead, lose yourself in those breath-taking mountain views, knowing that help is just a call, well, a satellite call, away!

A note on walkies: Our radio walkie-talkies are directly linked to the Machu Picchu National Park. If anything, unexpected happens, we can immediately get in touch with the right people throughout the region, ensuring a rapid response if needed! Satellite phones are reserved for longer distances.Walkie Talkies on our treks

First Aid

First Aid Kit on the treks to Machu PicchuWe give our guides top-notch safety and first-aid training every single year; ready to handle anything the mountains throw our way.

These vital sessions teach everything from the latest emergency techniques to the tried-and-true wilderness wisdom that keeps you safe. This is why Action Peru Treks are guaranteed to bring awesome guides and a team of trained first responders ready to jump into action.

We’ve also teamed up with medical pros at S.O.S Medical Clinic for an extra layer of on-the-trail support. So, you can rest with peace of mind and the best of both worlds: wilderness first-aid experts and intricate medical know-how.

No matter where the trail takes you, we’ve got your back.

Our First Aid Kits

On every trek, our guides carry seriously well-stocked first aid kits.

Here’s what you’ll find inside and why they’re important:

  • The Essentials: Bandages, antiseptic, blister treatments, gauze – the basics for handling scrapes, cuts, and minor injuries.
  • Altitude Adjustments: Oxygen tanks are a must-have in the thin Andean air. They help you catch your breath at high altitudes.
  • Health Monitoring: Oximeters and blood pressure cuffs allow guides to keep track of everyone’s well-being, which is especially important at high altitudes.
  • Unexpected Ailments: We carry over-the-counter medications for headaches, stomach troubles, and common allergies.

These kits aren’t just about supplies – they’re about being ready to act.

Knowing that help is always close by lets you focus on the fun stuff. With our guides and their first aid kits, you can relax, explore, and leave the health worries to us.

Health and Medical Provisions

We don’t just take you on epic hikes – we make sure you feel great doing it! That’s why we carry some important tools like oximeters and blood pressure cuffs.  Here’s what they do:Oximeters along the Inca Trail

  • Oximeters: These little devices clip onto your finger and measure how much oxygen is in your blood. This is super important as the air gets thin at high altitudes. Our guides will check in to make sure you’re acclimating well.
  • Blood Pressure Cuffs: Checking your blood pressure helps us see how your body’s handling the trek and if you might need a breather.
  • First Aid & Oxygen Kit: Our guides carry a well-stocked first aid kit and an oxygen tank. It’s like your mini on-trail medical backup for anything you might need.Oxygen bottle along the treks to Machu Picchu

Emergency Horse

Trekking the Andes is exhilarating, but sometimes, a little extra support is needed.

That’s why on select treks, we have an emergency horse ready to lend you a hoof!

Whether you get a bit winded from the altitude or just need a change of pace, don’t hesitate to ask your guide for a ride.

Altitude affects everyone differently: It’s important to listen to your body! Our guides keep a close eye on everyone’s well-being, ensuring you’re feeling your best.

Whether it’s taking an oxygen boost, hopping on the horse for a bit, or simply slowing down, we’re here to make adjustments so your adventure remains awesome and safe.

Our H2O Promise

With us, you won’t just see crystal-clear Andean streams – you’ll drink from them too!

We take water seriously, making sure every sip is clean and safe for you and our amazing porters. It’s all about staying hydrated and healthy so you can crush those trails!
