Day 1: Arrive at Puerto Maldonado, the Capital of Biodiversity

Fly to Puerto Maldonado where you will be met by one of our representatives and transferred by road to the pier. Begin your Amazon jungle adventure with an hour-long wooden boat ride along the Tambopata Madre de Dios Amazon River that splices through this amazing rainforest. Be amazed at the flora, fauna and breathtaking scenery of the Amazon jungle before arriving at our Amazon lodge located in the middle of the rainforest.

Check in at the lodge and enjoy a refreshing fruit water drink and then lunch. After a delicious jungle lunch, settle into your private cabana and take a rest before your first activity. You’ll meet your guide at the lodge for an introduction and 45-minute walk of the surrounding jungle dominated by giant Brazil nut and Dipteryx trees.

In the late afternoon, we highly recommend taking our night walk excursion to witness the jungle transform from a diurnal to a nocturnal world. This is where daytime animals and birds give way to species specially adapted to the darkness of the night. You may also be able to spot the likes of nightjars, owls, capybaras and caimans lurking on the riverbanks

Dinner will be served in the main dining room from 19:00-20:00 where we invite you to enjoy a complimentary Amazonian cocktail. After that, it’s back to your comfy cabaña where you can listen to the intriguing sounds of critters that inhabit the rainforest surrounding the lodge. That is an adventure in itself!

Note: Flight must arrive in Puerto Maldonado before 12:00PM.

Day 2: Forest Trails and Wetlands

After an early delicious breakfast, you and your guide will board the motorized canoe once again for the short morning boat ride to the trailhead to begin a morning’s exploration by foot and paddle canoe of the lake system of Condenado. This whole area is rich in bird and aquatic life and a family of giant otters lives in the vicinity of the lake. The afternoon is for exploring the forest close to the lodge (with or without your guide), relaxing and bathing in the Gallucunca, a cool clear stream based beside the lodge. After dark you will go searching for caimans (alligators) and other nocturnal animals by motorized canoe along the Tambopata River.

Day 3: Hike to Lake Sachavacayoc (Tapir Lake)

The sunlight squeezes through the dense trees as jungle inhabitants awake from their slumber. Optionally join them in the early hours, with a buffet breakfast served from 6:30 AM. Visit Lake Sachavacayoc this morning, a glassy, ox-bow lake located inside the protected Tambopata National Reserve reached via a sun-dappled rainforest trail. Board a dug-out wooden canoe to quietly paddle through a stream and glide onto Sachavacayoc, surrounded by picture-perfect palms.

This serene lake is home to many species of birds, the endangered giant river otter, red howler monkeys, red-bellied macaws, anacondas, side-neck turtles, black caimans amongst others. Then, you’ll return to the lodge in time for a delicious lunch.

In the afternoon, you will have time to relax in a hammock or take a refreshing dip in the nearby stream.

Day 4: Fly to Cusco or Lima

Say goodbye to the Amazon jungle as you return by canoe to Puerto Maldonado, getting memorable views of the sunrise over the river. This gives you a last chance to look out for wildlife that are particularly active at this time. Howler monkeys are frequently heard, as they stakeout their territories. From the airport at Puerto Maldonado, you can fly to your next destination in Peru, or back to Lima for your international connection.
